Dr. Griffin, retired in 2000, is currently spending most of this time teaching physicians in other countries such as Bolivia, Chile, Africa, etc., advanced ophthalmological techniques in order to help them to be able to provide better care to their patients. Robert Griffin has actively practiced Ophthalmology in Sacramento, California since 1974. He attended Stanford University and Stanford University School of Medicine, receiving his M.D. in 1966. He served a medical internship at Stanford University Affiliated Hospitals and a four-year residency in Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of California - Los Angeles, completing his formal training in Ophthalmology in 1974.

Dr. Griffin is a past-president of the Alta California Ophthalmological Society and served for 15 years on the clinical facility of the University of California, Davis, Department of Ophthalmology. He has published a number of articles in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Together with the other surgeons at Griffin & Reed Eye Care, Dr. Griffin has been involved in the treatment and care of many thousands of laser corrected eyes, one of the largest groups of post-operative laser vision correction patients managed by a single practice in the United States.

Dr. Griffin and his wife, Shirley, are active in both church and community services.
