I have been enjoying my new 20/20 vision for 10 years now! I still have people ask me about my News 10 series on Laser Eye Surgery. In 1994, I followed patients of Dr. Griffin and Dr. Reed as they headed to Canada for PRK. We documented their experiences and later followed up to see how they were doing. I was so impressed with the results I returned to Canada as a patient, reporting on my own eye surgery. That was all before the FDA had approved the procedure in this country. Dear Griffin and Reed Eye Care,
Greetings from Ohio.

It's been six years since my LASIK Surgery, so I want to update you on my eyes and my life.Ohio is beautiful this time of year and I want you to know I'm still seeing everything crystal clear thanks to you. I think about my LASIK correction every time I hit a golf ball or look out on the gorgeous green countryside.

But back in December, I thought my eyes were deceiving me after I gazed out my front window to see snow so deep it was covering my mailbox. Needless to say, during my first Cleveland winter I saw things I had never seen before.

So far, the family is adjusting well to Ohio. We settled in a fantastic neighborhood about 15 minutes south of Lake Erie. Everything here is family oriented and the children love it. Living in a cold climate can be quite a challenge, but also quite beautiful. Thankfully we made it through our first winter without losing any of our kids in a snowdrift.

But now, we're in the middle of warm summer days and breezy nights - so the winter seems like a distant memory.

At any rate, I miss everyone at the office. Please say hello to the Doctors and give the staff my best.

And thanks again for the 20/20 vision. I really do enjoy it every day.

The American poet, Ralph Emerson, said one, "We are limited, not by our abilities, but by our vision." Well, I don't know if he meant that LITERALLY, but ever since I got LASIK with you guys...it sure has helped.

Ever since I was around 11 or 12 years-old, I had poor vision. I couldn't wear contact lenses because it felt like I had lemon juice in my eyes, so I had to become a slave to glasses. I've lost count of all the pairs of glasses I've bent, crushed, broken and lost for any number of reasons. (Especially falling asleep with them on!) I've missed out on things like seeing the ocean while swimming, taking in the views from a rollercoaster or even playing backyard football with the family. Plus I can't even begin to tell you how hard it was trying to look cool with either clip-on sunglasses or even trying to hid my glasses under larger sunglasses.

But after getting LASIK from Dr. Reed, it really is a new beginning. I feel more independent in a strange way. And looking back at the experience, I feel a little foolish. Foolish that I ever had doubt in my mind about getting it done or fear it would hurt. The incredible staff at Griffin & Reed will forever be in my debt. I wouldn't have trusted my eyes to just anyone and you never took my trust for granted. So I would like to give you a very deeply felt and heart-filled "Thank You!" This was clearly on of the greatest decisions I ever made and I'm glad I made it with Griffin & Reed.

Well, what can I say. Five months ago I wanted LASIK surgery but was, like most people, concerned about messing around with my eyesight. I men, it's my eyes we're talking about here! But that's just it. These folks know this stuff! I met the G & R staff and Dr. Reed in particular, and knew immediately this was the place for me. From the first consultation, the first exam, through the procedure itself, and in the follow up. Everyone dealt with my concerns, questions, and apprehensions with honesty and understanding. I got my first pair of glasses in the 8th grade. A pair of those old thick-rimmed nerd glasses guaranteed to get you beaten up during recess. My wife, Holly, got her first pair even earlier, in the 2nd grade. Over the years we spent a small fortune on glasses, prescription sunglasses, contacts and contact solutions.

We had both considered LASIK in the past but had a long list of concerns and questions that had never been addressed to our satisfaction, until we sat down with the doctors and staff here. When we did we learned what you will learn. But the value of LASIK surgery by Griffin & Reed was really driven home to us during our visit to Baghdad, Iraq for my series, "Voices of Soldiers" broadcasts when we had to cope with a massive sand-storm and temperatures nearing 130-degrees with zero-percent humidity. Glasses or contacts (especially contacts) would have been a huge problem in that environment. Hopefully you will never have the point driven home as forcefully but you will still get the point when the world suddenly comes into focus every time you open your eyes!

As we write this it has been nearly a year and there are times when I still move to take my glasses off when I wash my face or reach for them on the night stand because I see things so clearly that, in my mind, I must still be wearing the glasses that I have worn since the 8th grade!

Dr. Reed,

I just wanted to drop a note to you to say thank you. Second only to the birth of my children, the LASIK eye surgery you performed on me is the single most profound, life changing event that I have experienced.

I began wearing glasses when I was five years old. I wore those glasses until high school. And not just any glasses. I had "coke bottles". My glasses were the biggest glasses most people had ever seen. I always won that game of comparing who had the most powerful prescription. Funny now, but not at the time. I was able to get into contact lenses in high school. I really thought that was it. I was finally rid of the glasses, but contacts have their drawbacks too. Because of my severe prescription, the contacts were enormous. They never really fit that well either. I always had to mess with them. Not to mention the countless bottles of solutions I went through. My eyes were often red and irritated. I could really only wear them for part of the day, but that was better than those glasses. I wore contacts for almost twenty years before my eye surgery. Needless to say, I was eager to have the procedure.

What I respect most about you and your staff is your honesty and integrity. I came to you for several years and had many visits before you took on my case. You told me from the first exam that you did not have the technology to tackle my particular combination of conditions. You also told me that other eye surgeons might attempt to do the surgery, but really it was best to wait, no matter how eager I was. You told me you would do the surgery ONLY when you had the right combination of equipment and skills and that I could be confident knowing it would be done correctly.

As tough as that was to hear, it was the proper thing to do. The time did come and the surgery did happen. Now I can see without glasses or contacts. I really didn't believe it was possible. I had no idea what a change it would make. No more that five minutes in the chair. Two quick zaps. Things have never been the same.

What a wonderful experience I've had start to finish with my LASIK procedure. The attention to detail at Griffin & Reed Eye Care is really impressive. From the original extensive and thoroughly informative seminar to the testing and re-testing of my vision, I felt completely comfortable and at ease with the procedure.

On the day of the procedure, the staff made me feel at ease and reassured right up to my LASIK. The operation(s) were painless and oh so quick. Five to ten minutes after my LASIK my astigmatism was immediately corrected. What a world of difference. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! This is how I feel after having laser vision correction with Dr. Reed! I was wearing eyeglasses or contacts since I was in the fourth grade, both delivered nothing but fuzzy vision and headaches.
